One year ago...

on Wed. August 29th, Jason flew out to Phx and we met face to face for the first time right outside the C Gates security at Sky Harbor Airport.

This past weekend we were accidentally in the same spot we were one year ago. We flew to Phoenix for the long weekend to visit my family. As we walked out of security I realized that it was a year ago that we were in that same spot. So I said to Jason, "hey do remember this? Do you remember where we were a year ago?" And of course, he said what are you talking about :) Then he stopped and pulled out a card and this rose out of his carryon and we had a little moment in the airport once again, one year later, to the date. How grateful I am for Jason in my life. How grateful I am that he came to Phx for the first time in August and spent a 115 degree day with me :)

New additions

Our newest neice and nephew
Abby and Carter

Abby was born July 9, 2008 and Carter was born May 30, 2008.
My brother Scott and his wife Dani have Abby and
My sister Jody and her husband Kirk have Carter.
They are both so sweet.
This was the first time we got to see them in person :)
And since we had almost everyone in Mesa (except Damon, who belongs to Scott and Dani) we took another family picture. It was pretty painless too. Alot better than when we were younger. Thank you to Tara, our photographer.

San Diego was great but where is the camera?

So after our Alaska trip I decided that I wanted to document our travels a little better. So when Jason had a work conference in San Diego, I was excited to try out my new goal. Well now I cant find the camera and I'm pretty sure that its lost. I've looked everywhere and even called Southwest Lost and Found, and nothing. Although I will say that its amazing what you can find on the internet. Now I can somewhat document our trip :) These are a few pictures that were on my camera...where ever it is :( There also would've also been pictures of Jason and some of his GIS buddies. It was fun to hang out with all of them and get to put some faces with names.

We stayed in this hundred year old hotel in the gaslamp district. It had tons of character and was a great location to Jason's conference and to Seaport Village. Jason was in San Diego all week and I was able to fly down Tuesday night. A few mornings I woke up and went running through Seaport Village right along the bay. It was quite nice however, I did come to the realization that I need to exercise more. Jason usually took a long lunch and then he would be done early so we had time to play.

Here's our old fashioned bathroom. I felt like I was ringing for the butler every time I flushed the toilet :)
This is what our room looked like except not as pink or flowery. I think this picture must be from the 80s. We also had a cute balcony where I could read my book. One side note: On our last night we had a nice little fire drill at 4am or should I say false alarm. I guess someone was smoking in their room. I was amazed at how reluctant I was to believe that it was for real and that we needed to leave. We casually walked downstairs in our pjs. We were grateful it was a false alarm. We went to Coronado Beach, La Jolla Beach and Pacific Beach. All were great but I think La Jolla was my favorite. We saw the sunset and it was just really beautiful.
This is what one of our pictures on our lost camera looked like I'm sure :) La Jolla at sunset. I think that land sticking out in the background is where you can see the seals...and smell them too :)

And finally, one last picture that is forever lost is of the outside of Tadashi Sushi in La Jolla on Prospect Rd. We both really liked this little place, so if you're ever in La Jolla and feel like sushi, we'd highly recommend it.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people

Sunday morning we got in Jason's truck and he realized that the tank was on empty, very empty. We decided we wouldnt be able to make it to church so we turned around and got my car. Meanwhile Jason came to the conclusion that someone had ciphened his tank. I thought that was a little unlikely but I was then convinced when we got out of the truck to switch cars and the gas tank cap was open and off! So we went to church a little awestruck that someone would actually do this. Anyway long story short, Monday we borrowed a neighbors gas can to fill the tank up a little so Jason could make it to the gas station. We soon realized, by the gas spilling on Jason's feet, that our little thief not only stole our gas but ruined our gas tank. Lovely.

Jason did a lot of calling around to figure out how much this would cost...not cheap. Alot more than the value of that tank of gas thats for sure (even at $4 a gallon). Well what we learned from this was that even though crappy things like this happen sometimes, it made us see how generous and willing people can be to help out.

We were very grateful for those who helped us out during this inconvenience
  • our neighbors for lending us the gas can
  • our mechanic who went out of his way to find a used tank which took the price down by half
  • Jason's co-workers who were willing to stay a little later at work and fight worse traffic on their way home so that he could carpool.
  • Caltrain :)
  • Our apartment complex for throwning in this garage for free :) Kinda cute.

Gilroy. The Garlic Capitol of the World!

This year I got to experience my first Garlic Festival. People drive from all ove the Bay Area for this. Its quite a big deal actually...for Gilroy anyway. It was a hot summers day, something I've been looking forward to for a long time (I've been told its been an unusually cool summer this year). It was warm, we ate good food, and had great company. Luckily Jason's parents live a few blocks from the festival so we didnt have to worry about parking and traffic. It was fun to go with Jason's parents. It was also fun to see all the snow cone/water stands on the sidewalks along the way.

We started our experience with some really garlicy garlic bread, then we had the some frozen lemonade, perfect for a hot day!
Next was the corn on the cob dipped in garlic butter. So good!! Then we sampled the garlic ice cream. This was actually fairly good, believe it or not. It was basically a hint of garlic followed by yummy soft serve ice cream taste. The garlic did not linger as it usually does. Or maybe it was more potent but our taste buds were already consumed with garlic so it may not have been a fair test.
We finished off by having some awesome pesto pasta, garlic cheese steak sandwich and buttery, garlicy sateed button mushrooms. "They were buttonlicious!" (thats a direct quote from Jason). Sound like a lot of food?? Just for the record. we did a lot of food sharing :)

More Alaska...Juneau

Some perspective. We rode up this tram and went on a really awesome hike at the top of this mountain.
Nice self portrait

Mendenhall Glacier

Views of the glacier from the air. This was definitely a must see. It doesnt get any "cooler" than this.
