Parents visit

The Parents...

come to visit

A few weeks ago my parents came up to the Bay Area for a visit. We had a lot of fun and it was definitely too short but it was fun while it lasted. We made dinner one night at our apt, had Carls Jr shakes, drove a lot, saw Muir Woods, Half Moon Bay, Carmel, Monterey, ate at the Taco Bell in Pacifica (with the best view any Taco Bell will ever have in my opinion), hiked, and hiked and hiked and then turned around :), played Scrabble (and my parents learned the real rules to Scrabble), had lunch with the Eggers in Gilroy, and visited my cousin Stephanie and her family. We are both so grateful for awesome parents and great families. We are so very blessed!

And yet another

Jason was taking all these pics while the park ranger was telling us about the trees. The park ranger wasnt as interesting as watching Jason take these pictures of himself from across the way :)

Me and my mom by some huge trees!

Pumpkin Patch
This place was sooo fun! Some of the pumpkins were still on the vines.

They even had wheelbarrows for us to wheel each other around.

Scarecrows

Here, Jason and I are discussing what our new finds could possibly be while I take the picture :) (notice the shadows, we didnt realize we were in the picture til later :))

Monterrey & Carmel

We drove the 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach, one of the most prestigious gold courses around. We heard that the waiting list to play here is many years long. We also saw some incredibly enormous houses, large crashing waves, sea lions and just awesome scenery overall (from what we could see through the fog).

I Passed!!

About a month ago, Jason and I drove to Sacramento so that I could take a very long and overly dramatic test for my California hearing aid dispensers license. Jason and I could not speak to each other and had to sit on opposite sides of the waiting area. We sat in that waiting area about 3 1/2 hrs.

The bureau said that they would contact us by phone by Oct 22nd if we failed so that we could re-apply for the next test. Well they called me the 21st and I was just sick when the receptionist told me who was calling. I disappointedly said hello and the lady said,

"what can I say to you to make your day today??"
I said, "that I passed??"
She said, "I'm calling to tell you that you do not have to re-apply for the next test."
"OK....so are you saying I passed???"
She finally said, "yes you passed!"

OK then just say so I thought!!!
Anyway short story long. I passed!!! Yeah!!! What a relief!! Jason and I went to a cute little Italian restaurant on El Camino to celebrate and then to Savemart to save some money on groceries. It was a good day!!
Great News! No more Vegas!
As some of you may know, I have been traveling to Las Vegas/Henderson for work a few times a month. I started going in April and my last time was a few weeks ago. Last time I was there, work informed me that they hired someone, who actually lives in Nevada!!! :) Although I was not super excited to travel for work, sometimes you just have to take one for the team. However, there were some good things that came of this.
  • I became very good and fast at parking my car in the long term parking lot at the San Jose Airport (which took me about 8 minutes from my house to the lot). I decided that taking a cab was not worth the time I saved after having a few strange/inappropriate chats with cab drivers.
  • I know the ins-n-outs of the LasVegas Airport and Rental Car Facility
  • I got lots of frequent flyer points through Southwest
  • I got to visit a few friends and go to dinner with them while I was there...Kellie from work and Shelby and her new husband Devin.
  • I got good at packing very quickly the night before, but usually the morning of.
  • I was finally able to open the heavy door into the hotel with all my stuff without help.
  • But most of all, it made me appreciate driving to work (instead of flying), sleeping in my own bed and coming home to Jason at the end of the day!

Early to bed, early to rise

We have all heard this saying. Well I have never been a believer or a big fan. Recently Jason was called to be one of the Seminary teachers in our stake. This requires him to teach the Freshmen and Sophomores about the gospel at 6am every morning before school and work. Needless to say, Jason gets up very early. Alot earlier than I do. But, I thought this would be a good opportunity to see if I could appreciate waking up early.

So a few weeks ago I got up and brought in a treat to Seminary. I didnt have to work that day so my plans were to take the treats and then go back to bed. To my surprise, I wasnt tired when I got home so I got a few things done instead of going back to sleep and felt quite good about myself. Since then I have tried to wake up earlier to exercise. I have not done this everyday by any means but I have done it, and some is better than none and I always feel good when I do it. So I am writing this to remind myself of the good things I can do in the morning and how good I feel if I can just get out of bed. The reward is, if I have done nothing else today atleast I got up and exercised and that feels good! Does anyone have any good ideas on how to motivate yourself to get up early?? Please share if you do.
